1. Freiburg Minster

The Gothic Freiburg Minster “Our Lady” is one of the few large churches that were completed in the Middle Ages . Construction work began as early as 1200 and lasted over 300 years. Even today, numerous parts of the church date from the time of the Middle Ages, although numerous wars have raged in the city since then. It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Freiburg im Breisgau Germany.

3. Freiburg Bächle

The small watercourses that run through Freiburg for more than 15 kilometers and are fed by the Dreisam are particularly beautiful to look at. In the Middle Ages, they supplied the city with water and were used to irrigate the countryside and as fire-fighting water.The youngest bathers are certainly not interested in this legend, but only have eyes for the colorful Bächle boats that cruise comfortably on the water.

 

4. Martinstor and Schwabentor

The Schwabentor, built around 1250, is together with the Martinstor the second surviving gate of the former city fortifications. The Martinstor is the oldest and part of a 66 meter high tower. It was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century so as not to obstruct traffic. The Schwabentor next door inspires with its historic architecture and the image of a Swabian merchant in the passage who, according to legend, wanted to buy the city.

The museum is located in a former monastery of the Augustinian monks and impresses with the oldest roof truss in Freiburg. Today the Augustinian Museum is one of the most important museums in southern Germany.

On the site of the former Bastion Saint Louis is the Colombischlössle – a manor house that was built in 1859-1861 in the Gothic Tudor style. Today you can visit the archaeological museum of Freiburg in the architectural masterpiece and find the architecture and finds from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.

10. Seepark Betzenhausen

This was first used for agriculture, but since the soil consisted mainly of crushed stone and gravel, a gravel company settled there in the 1920s. In the 1970s, gravel quarrying was stopped because the area was to be converted into a park. However, this was only successful when the application for the State Horticultural Show in 1986 was positive. A 35-hectare recreational area was created, with an approximately 10-hectare artificial lake, the Flückigersee.

 

11. Schauinsland Freiburg im Breisgau
