1. Old town hall of Villingen

The building of the old town hall in Villingen , which essentially dates back to the early 13th century, was generously expanded as a town hall in the 16th century and was given roughly the appearance it has today.

The collection of antiquities from the town of Villingen was housed in the old town hall as early as the 19th century. Today, readings, guided tours and smaller exhibitions on cultural history take place in the old town hall, as well as civil weddings in the council hall. 2. Altvillingerin

The Altvillingerin is a foolish figure in the Villinger Fasnet . As one of the first female figures, the woman from Altvillinger quickly conquered the supremacy of men at carnival . Their Häs (clothing) originally comes from the time when Villingen still belonged to Habsburg Austria. To protect her anonymity, the woman from Altvilling wears a larva (wooden mask). What is striking about this Villinger carnival figure is its golden wheel hood.

 

3. Observation Tower on the Wanne Villingen

To the east of the old town of Villingen rises the so-called Wanne, a mountain with a height of around 776 m. In 1888 a 30 meter high tower was built on the tub by the lookout tower cooperative. The initiative came from the beautification association Villingen. The panoramic view extends north-east from the Hohenzollern over the Swabian Alb to the Lupfen and from the Feldberg in the south-west to around Brend near Furtwangenin the West.

The Benedictine Church on the north-western edge of historic Villingen city center was built in 1688 and consecrated in 1725. In particular, the interior with 16 meter high pillars with galleries and the nave with a final barrel vault are worth seeing. Since 2002, the Silbermann organ, which has been reconstructed true to the original, has stood in the Benedictine church.

The Schwenninger Moos is a natural history gem on the outskirts of Schwenningen. The moor area on the main European watershed has surprises in store at any time of the day or year. 7. Muslenplatz

Muslenplatz has been the lively center of the city since 1981 and has developed into a popular meeting place. The Muslenplatz got its name from the small river Muslen, which today flows in Dolen and on which the core of the settlement of Schwenningen used to be.
Today, institutions such as the city library or the home and clock museum are located here.

 

8. The German Clock Route

The German Clock Road is a circular tour and runs for almost 320 km through the wonderful landscapes of the Black Forest and the Baar. Great views open up along the route with museums, watch factories, exhibitions, churches, and old craft shops at altitudes of 250 m to 1100 m.

Whether you set out as a watch expert or as a mountain biker: On this route, all visitors have the opportunity to learn about watch history, from the beginnings of domestic trade in the Upper Black Forest to what used to be the largest watch factory in the world in Schramberg.

 

9. Bicken monastery Villingen Schwenningen

The former Bicken monastery next to the Bickentor in downtown Villingen originally dates from the 13th century and was built for the Franciscan order. From 1480 the convent became a Poor Clares convent, and in 1782 the Ursulines took over the convent buildings and set up an Ursuline convent with a girls’ school.

 

10. Triberg Waterfalls

The Triberg Waterfalls near Triberg in the Black Forest are among the highest waterfalls in Germany. They are fed by the Gutach river, which forms from the streams of the Schönwald plateau.

The roaring masses of water fall down a total of 163 meters along mighty granite steps. The waterfalls in Triberg are divided into the upper and lower falls, with the latter forming the imposing main attraction with its seven levels.
