1. Martigues town
Formerly a fishing town, today a tourist and industrial city, Martigues during the summer offers original and varied activities. Martigues allow you to enjoy moments of relaxation by the sea or in the many restaurants. We suggest spend some time at the port because is one of the best places to visit in Martigues.
2. Park Figuerolles Martigues
The Grand Parc de Figuerolles is an area of 130 hectares. It is ideal for family outings. It is suitable for all types of visitors, walkers or sportsmen. It is both fun and educational, thanks to its layout in three sectors.
3. Saint-Croix beach
This fine sandy beach is one of the most beautiful beaches around Marseille. Located between Sausset-les-Pins and Martigues, it is perfectly suited to families with children. It is indeed supervised during the summer period and its waters are shallow. The beach of Sainte Croix offers an idyllic setting with its very clean turquoise waters and its beach surrounded by pine trees which offers very appreciable shaded corners in summer.
4. Verdon Beach
Verdon beach is a beautiful beach of 300m, made of sand and therefore very popular with the inhabitants of Martigues. Protected by a large cove which shelters it from the wind, it has all the necessary facilities for coming with the family.
The beach is supervised, the toilets are equipped, the bars and restaurants are nearby. The little extra of the Verdon beach is the pedal boats which allow you to go for a ride and admire the scenery from the sea.
5. The Ziem Museum Martigues
The Ziem Museum was founded in 1908 and houses more than 8000 works: paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and various objects. It is located in the city centre of Martigues, in the Ferrières district. Admission is free.
In 1861, Martigues saw the studio of the painter Félix Ziem set up on its shores. In 1839, at the age of 18, he left his native Burgundy and discovered Provence and the Mediterranean Sea.
6. Beach of Carro
The beach of Carro located near the port, is half sand and half pebbles, it is not very big but sufficient to accommodate families. It is marked and supervised in summer to guarantee the safety of bathers vis-à-vis boats entering and leaving the port. Fo summer vacations, Beach of Carro is one of the best places to visit in Martigues.
7. Beach of La Saulce Martigues
La Saulce is a sandy beach 50 meters long and 50 meters wide, supervised in summer and with all amenities, accommodation and restaurants nearby. La Saulce beach has the particularity of welcoming tourists in the summer season from the three campsites located around it.
8. Calanque des Eaux Salées
The Calanque des Eaux Salées in Carry-le-Rouet is located to the east of the hamlet of Le Rouet. This large creek is recognizable thanks to its viaduct which spans it.
Even if its access is quite difficult, its attendance is important in summer. The wild environment is very pleasant with some rocks on the sides which amuse the children. Note that the beach is made of large pebbles.
