The health and wellbeing of our residents, visitors, traders and the city as a whole is, as ever, our top priority and as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, York’s St Nicholas Fair will not be going ahead this year.
Despite this, York remains to be proud to have been named ‘The UK’s Most Festive City’ and the city’s restaurants, shops and attractions will still be bringing all the festive cheer to your York experience. York Christmas Market is usually mainly on Parliament Street, but you can also find cabins in Coppergate and a covered market just round the corner from Parliament Street where the regular market is. Housed in these cute little wooden cabins, you can buy all manner of Christmas gifts. My favourite are the ones selling pretty interiors products and Christmas decorations.
There are all sorts of wares sold, from Christmas decorations to leather goods, clothing and accessories. York also attracts lots of delicious foody stalls, selling ranges of cheeses, chutneys and chilli jam! There are takeaway vendors too and the smells as you peruse the stalls is heavenly! They always run street-food alongside like Scandinavian sausages and loaded fries. In the centre of the tipi there is a real fire you can gather around. It’s a lovely warm haven (there are heaters as well as the fire) where you can relax amid the hustle and bustle of the shoppers in the Christmas market.
